Cavs Almost Get ‘Knick’-ed In LeBron’s Record Breaker

Like putting a dozen Krispy Kreme’s in front of Kirstie Alley, and then pulling them away before she reaches to devour one, Knicks fans watching Saturday night’s game once again got a demonstration of what The King can do when he switches it on ‘highlight mode’. James seems to always put on a show in front of the Knicks…after all, his career best 52 points came at Madison Square Garden against the Knicks…and he did it again, this time at The Q in a 113-106 win to extend the Cavs winning streak to 11 games.

10 In A Row, as Cavs Cool The Heat

The Cleveland Cavaliers extended their winning streak to 10 games tonight, with a 102-86 dismantling of the Miami Heat. The Cavaliers are easily playing their best basketball of the season right now, oddly enough while still playing without Mo Williams and Delonte West.

Cavs Roll As Shaq and James Dominate Pacers

The Cleveland Cavaliers head home from Indiana with the best record in the NBA and truly look like a team who deserves to be considered the best team in the NBA. No other team has played more road game this season, and no team has a better road record this season either. Now the Cavaliers have an extended home-stand ahead of them (seven games) and have an opportunity to solidify their position atop the leagues standings.

James Once Again ‘King’ in Battle of Superstars

Tonight in Miami, the Cleveland Cavaliers prevailed in a tightly contested game, once again without either of their starting point guards in the lineup. Mo Williams and Delonte West were in street clothes again for the Cavs, thus relegating them to being well dressed cheerleaders……and did their teammates and LeBron James ever give them something to cheer about!

Thunder-ous Win for Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had some great wins this season….including a sweep of the Lakers. But with three key players out of the lineup with injury (Mo Williams, Delonte West, Jamario Moon), a starting point guard who hadn’t played the point in over two seasons, and a rookie free agent just signed the day before to a 10-day contract, the Cavaliers win over the Kevin Durant-led Oklahoma City Thunder, to me was their most impressive win of the season. It wasn’t easy, and it took a Sportscenter-esque block from LeBron James, as Kevin Durant drove the basket with less than three seconds remaining for the Cavs to walk off the court with a one-point victory, but this win showed the Cavs are a team with character, depth and heart.

Opportunity Knocks For Daniel Gibson

For the past month and a half, Daniel Gibson has watched the Cavs work their way toward the best record in the NBA, largely as a spectator. His limited play, and very limited production when he did play, left Gibson as a “DNP Coaches Decision” on the stat line for many of the last 20 games. That will all change on Saturday, when Gibson is set to start at point guard for the Cavaliers when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder. Other than being ready when called upon, this change has nothing to do with Gibson’s performance in games or on the practice floor…..it’s because the Cavaliers front court has suddenly caught the injury-bug.

Cavs Pocket An Advantage With Completed Lakers Sweep

OK, so it’s early….and there is a lot of basketball to be played, but after beating the Lakers in LA on Christmas, and now beating them again on Thursday night to complete a two-game series sweep, the Cavaliers have now locked up home-court advantage, if the season ends with a Lakers-Cavaliers NBA Finals.

Cavs Almost Get Clipped To End Road Trip

The Cavaliers final game of an extended road trip out West proved to be somewhat of a wakeup call. For most of the game it was as if the Cavs were sleep walking their way through the game. Their offense lacked any rhythm at all for most of the game (except when LeBron took an early break with two quick fouls, which made the stand-and-watch-LeBron offense an impossibility), and their defense played as if they had never seen a pick-and-roll in their life…..always slow to the shooter. Then with about eight minutes left in the game, it was as if the Cavaliers said “damn, we’re about to lose this game if we don’t step up!”…..and “step up” they did. With some tenacious defense, and some timely shooting, the Cavaliers escaped Los Angeles with a one-point win over a Clippers team that beat the Cavaliers in almost every statistical category…..except points-scored.

Midway Through Season, Where’s Boobie?

The Cavaliers have hit the midway point of the 2009/2010 season and it appears that coach Mike Brown is getting closer to a rotation that he feels comfortable with. Anderson Varejao is locked in as the first man off the bench, Shaq and ‘Z’ form the two-headed monster at center, and Mo Williams and Delonte seem to be set into a variety of roles that include playing the point, and shooting guard. Then there is a mix of JJ Hickson, Jamario Moon, Anthony Parker, and now Jawad Williams, depending on the lineup the Cavs face at any given time. Last and not least of course, there is LeBron who plays the role of…..well, LeBron….throughout the game. One player who is conspicuous in his absence, particularly during this West Coast trip, is Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. In fact, now in his fourth NBA season, Gibson is on pace to average the fewest number of minutes per game since his rookie season in 2006/2007.

Pieces Falling Into Place For Cavaliers
